Do You Need Emergency Dental Care?

It’s important not to ignore the signs of a dental emergency. Simple symptoms may relate to a more serious problem. For example, your toothache may come from a deeply decayed or internally damaged tooth, which requires immediate treatment to avoid tooth loss. Some common dental emergencies include a broken tooth, cracked tooth, chipped tooth, a broken dental filling, or even severe tooth decay where the nerve is exposed. Any of these issues require emergency dental care.

There’s no reason to leave a dental emergency alone and deal with the pain or discomfort. Dental emergencies will only get worse, so it’s best to treat them rapidly. Fortunately, dental problems are fixable and affordable at Today Dental.

If you find yourself with a toothache, tooth loss, dental work damage, or any other pressing dental problem, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We also advise you to:

  • Clean a broken or missing tooth gently under running water. Avoid touching the root. Place it back into the socket if possible, or keep it in a plastic bag of saline solution, saliva, or milk.
  • Save pieces of broken dental work and bring them into the office. If broken dental work or orthodontics are bothering you, place dental wax over the sharp edge.
  • Use a cold compress on the outside of the affected area to prevent swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers may also be right for some patients. Ask our dental staff for guidance.
  • For soft tissue injuries, hold a clean cloth or piece of gauze against the injury to staunch any bleeding. If bleeding does not stop, visit your local emergency room.
